Reboiler duty against separation.
A column is the other place a refinery burns money it does not have to. The method transfers directly, and we are partway through applying it.
Where this actually is
What exists: the thermodynamic core. Species enthalpies, vapour and liquid properties, and the energy balance machinery are shared with the fired heater twin and already tested.
What does not exist: stage-by-stage validation against an operating column, and the constrained optimiser tuned for the trade-off that matters here, which is reflux against product spec rather than air against CO.
What we will not do: put a number on this page. We have no validated result for a column and quoting the heater figures next to a column heading would imply one.
